Reduce The Cost Of Your Holiday By Holidaying In The UK

At the moment the credit crisis is impacting on the country and it is time to begin checking where we can make cost savings and the summer holiday is bound to come under fire. With a trip abroad potentially going to cost thousands and the exchange rate falling making prices abroad even more costly, what can you do to save a small fortune?

Well, the obvious answer is to not holiday outside of the UK. Booking a holiday cottage is quick and easy, it means that you don’t have to change currency and there are many more savings to be made. But with the weather not always on our side, to keep the costs down you must plan ahead.

Finding a UK holiday cottage is easy enough and cheap enough, but once you are on holiday it can still be very costly, and if you are not careful it can actually end up costing you more than holidaying abroad. So what is the solution? Quite simple – find a few attractions to do that don’t cost too much.

But, what are you going to do there? Are you walkers? If so, then you are unlikely to need to be persuaded into holidaying nearer to home, instead of abroad. If you aren’t then why not give it a try? It is surprising how the most complaining of children can suddenly enjoy a walk when they have been taken out and fitted with simple walking shoes and a fleece before hand (buy cheap items, remember this is money saving). Give each a photocopy of the local map and let them find the route on the map, or maybe appoint one to lead you. They will certainly enjoy that!

Three or four days can easily be taken very enjoyably in a week with a late start after putting together a picnic lunch, a walk of an hour, a lunch somewhere nice and then a walk back home, maybe getting a paper on the way and sitting down to recover with a hot drink. Add variety into the route and the small cost spent on boots then seems very little for four days’ entertainment – and you will feel fitter for it!

What about the remaining days? Well, once you have found your cottage been on the look out for groceries and offers giving discounted entry to attractions in the region you are going. If you buy from Tesco, then you could try using clubcard vouchers for entry to attractions at your cottage – with their 4 to 1 value, this really does make entry cheap!

Holidaying within the UK really can save you a lot of cash. Find a cottage, be on the look out for cheap entry to local attractions and surprise yourself about holidaying in the UK.
