Whether you are playing free poker games or pay poker, casino poker or online poker, every poker plays a different game, it would be no fun if everybody played the same. There are also different ways to act at the table and some are good manners and some are bad. Having a bit of a laugh at the table is fine, and names like donkey and fish are friendly jibes that are considered acceptable. Every poker player deserves respect, even if they are bad. This will make you seem more professional in any arena. Some pros to watch are Phil Ivey, Johnny Chan. and Daniel Negraneu. They always lose with pride good beat or bad beat.
An unacceptable way to act at the table is to be abusive to your fellow players. Everybody plays differently, both good and bad, and that is their choice, not yours. It is unacceptable to call another player an abusive name, such as prat, moron, d**k, etc. Some pros that show this way of badgering are Phil Helmuth, and Mike Matusow. There is no excuse for being rude at a table, and blaming the stress at the table is not a good enough excuse. If you are playing against some of your friends, who you know well, you can call them names and they will probably return the complement, however players who you do not know should be treated with respect.
Now celebrating a big win in a hand could be considered showboating and rude. We all get excited when we hit a card we need to win a hand. Try to celebrate it on the inside or maybe with a little yes and an apology to your opponent. Always at all times show your opponents respect and take pride in what you do. This will make you seem like a good person and help you succeed further in life.
My tips are just that, ‘tips’, however if you want to gain respect at the table from your opponents then try to sick as close to them as you can, even in the heat of the moment. Try playing some free poker games to get a grip of the banter at the tables and see how you get on.
