Devil May Cry 3

Devil May Cry 3 is a major video game. After a first sequel wasn’t well received, Capcom tried again with this one. Here’s more information about it.

Devil May Cry 3

The first game in the series was a hit. But the second game didn’t do so well. Devil May Cry 3 was a return to many of the features that made the first game so successful. It was harder, and had a completely revamped fighting engine along with huge 3D worlds. The game sold 1.3 million units around the world. It was considered a financial success. Game Informer called it one of the top video games of 2005. No other game could match its battle engine. People could play it on a console or PC.

The main character Dante is attacked by demons sent by his brother Vergil. Dante wins the fight, but then a high tower pops out of the ground. He senses his brother somewhere in the tower. As he fights his way through the dead bosses become weapons. These weapons are useful on subsequent levels.

But in the course of fighting through the tower and battling his brother, Dante learns that a man named Arkham is manipulating them in order to reactivate the tower, steal a powerful sword from the demon world, and use it to rule over the earth. Dante and Vergil eventually defeat the Arkham, then fight over the powerful sword, called the Force Edge. Dante wins the sword, and his brother chooses to stay behind in the demon world.

The plot is thin, but it drives the action from level to level and boss to boss. In general the levels become more difficult. In the original game, made for Japan, hard was the highest level. Capcom made the decision to convert this into the normal mode in the North American release. They bumped up difficulty from there, culminating in a nearly impossible hard level in North America. Most people agreed it was too difficult.

Game design isn’t easy. There were complaints that the first sequel had been too easy. Capcom adjusted by increasing the difficulty of Devil May Cry 3 only to have that one criticized for being too difficult. Sometimes it’s to the point that if a video game creator could walk on water people would complain that he doesn’t know how to swim.

Devil May Cry 3

By now Devil May Cry 3 is quite dated. But in its time it was a fun game that many people played.
